“Goosebumps The Musical” Cast Album Lands on Billboard Chart

Goosebumps^® The Musical: Phantom of the Auditorium (Original Studio Cast Recording) debuted at #12 on the Billboard Cast Albums chart for the week of July 9, 2022. Of the shows represented by the 15 albums on the chart, Goosebumps The Musical is the only one to have achieved the distinction without the help of a Broadway production. It is also one of only four albums on the chart to have been released within the past year. The chart’s #1 spot was claimed by the record-breaking cast album for Hamilton.

Shortly after the Billboard chart’s release, the Goosebumps The Musical album was also recognized by Spotify, which selected the album’s viral hit song, “The Story of The Phantom” for its exclusive “Best of Broadway” editorial playlist. The playlist, with 88 songs and more than 452,000 followers, is curated by Spotify’s staff playlist editors and includes many of the biggest hit songs from the last several decades of Broadway musicals. Along a similar theme, Goosebumps The Musical is currently the only show represented on the list to have claimed a spot without a Broadway or West End production.

The musical is based on the book by R.L. Stine published by Scholastic Inc., and features music and lyrics by Danny Abosch and book and lyrics by John Maclay. The album’s all-star cast includes Krystina Alabado (Mean Girls, American Psycho), Alex Brightman (Tony Award^® nominee for Beetlejuice), Noah Galvin (Waitress, “The Real O’Neals”), Sheryl Lee Ralph (Tony nominee for Dreamgirls), Will Roland (Dear Evan Hansen, Be More Chill), and Stephanie Styles (Kiss Me Kate, “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist”), in addition to a special appearance from R.L. Stine himself. The album cover is a new original work by Tim Jacobus, illustrator of the iconic original Goosebumps art.

The album was released October 29, 2021 by Ghostlight Records in digital and streaming formats, and a collectible CD edition was released June 24, 2022. The CD edition, which hit #1 on Amazon’s “Hot New Releases” chart in the Musicals category, is currently available from Amazon and other retailers.
